Almost half of the share investments by Austrians are in companies listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange.
The Austrian National Bank (OeNB) periodically gathers data regarding the investment patterns of some 3.8 million Austrian households. According to these statistics, in the first half of 2016 the assets of private households totalled EUR 610.4 billion and the percentage of directly held shares in this fi gure amounted to slightly less than 4%. By far the largest portion of this sum flowed into Austrian companies listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange. As far as foreign companies were concerned, among others the Austrians invested in US and German companies.
