> Vienna Stock Exchange - ATX among European top performers with a gain of 14% since end of March
- The CEO of the Vienna Stock Exchange, Heinrich Schaller, is very pleased with the development of the Vienna Stock Exchange in the past few weeks. The market developed excellently and proved its capacity for absorbing fresh capital as shown by the most recent capital increases conducted by Wienerberger and the Vienna Insurance Group. With a gain of around 14 percent since the end of March, Vienna’s leading index has performed the best of all European indices. Austrian companies presented excellent results and the economic indicators released are a positive signal said Mr. Schaller.

> Capital increase of Vienna Insurance Group raised EUR 1.14bn – The Vienna Insurance Group (Wiener Städtische) fixed the subscription and offer price for news shares at EUR 49.50 after the book-building period ended on 7 May. The high demand made it possible to place all of the 23 million shares of the capital increase. The offer was oversubscribed several times. At a volume of some EUR 1.14bn, the capital increase of the Vienna Insurance Group represents the largest share placement ever conducted by an insurance company through the Vienna Stock Exchange. Demand from institutional investors came from Austria, Great Britain, the US and Japan. (APA, 7 May 2008)

> Government wants to attract private equity – In order to attract more venture capitalists to Austria, tax reliefs are to be granted for profits from sales by investment firms. This measure was recently discussed at the Ministry of Finance. The body discussing the issue included the Minister of Finance Wilhelm Molterer, the Special Representative for the Capital Market Richard Schenz, the CEO of the Vienna Stock Exchange Heinrich Schaller and chief analysts of domestic banks. The most important outcome of the capital market summit: A new capital market law to strengthen the market is to be sent out for commentary before the start of summer in a move to promote the Austrian capital market. (WirtschaftsBlatt, 7 May 2008)
